Introducing our Ambassador, Rosie Brown

Rosie sustained a traumatic brain injury in September 2009 after a hit and run road accident in Ashford, Kent.  The accident also killed two other pedestrians, Denise Head and Brian Moon, and injured others. The driver of the vehicle, who was drunk at the time of the accident, is now serving a prison sentence for death by dangerous driving.

Since the accident Rosie has made remarkable progress and has agreed to become an Ambassador for Find A Voice.  As well as being confined to a wheelchair, Rosie is also unable to speak following the injuries that she sustained.  Currently an in-patient at a rehabilitation unit in Chailey, East Sussex, she travels home nearly every weekend to be with her Grandparents who look after her.

It is hoped that Rosie will be returning home to Kent on a full time basis.  She has been referred to the Kent Children's CAT (Communication Assistive Technology) Team in Ashford where she will be assessed for the most suitable method of communication technology.  We will be following Rosie through the assessment process and reporting back to you in Rosie's Blog.  When she is able to communicate, she will take over the blog herself and share her thoughts and feelings with you all.

Rosie is delighted to be a Ambassador for Find A Voice; she may not be able to vocalise freely at present but is good at big smiles!

Rosie now has her communication aid, which she received towards the end of September. She is currently exploring the technology and learning how to use it. Once Rosie has learnt how to communicate through her aid  she will be able to comment in the blog herself.
