New Girl Gets Started!

Tagged in: UntaggedHello everyone,
Well, now I've been in post for almost 3 months, I guess it must be time to let you all know how I've been getting on in my new role as Outreach Library Co-ordinator for Find a Voice.
I was really excited to join the team at Find a Voice, for me, it means a very steep learning curve while I familiarise myself with all the AAC equipment and perhaps more importantly the issues that people with communication difficulties face. But it is also a great opportunity for me to learn a new set of skills and become involved with a charity that has a really positive impact on people's lives.
I have really enjoyed meeting with all the professionals and users of the library service and finding out what they like about the library service and any improvements they would like to see happen in the future.
As part of my induction programme I will also be meeting with the major manufacturers of AAC equipment. I recently met with Hector Minto from Tobii Chruchill, he kindly demonstrated the latest 'eye gaze' technology, which was surprising easy to start using. It gave me a fascinating insight into the possibilities of this type of technology. I'm really looking forward to meeting with the other manufacturers soon to learn more about the different types of communication aids available.
So, while I get used to my new mode of transport (the infamous FAV van) and all the challenges of my new role, such as finding all the different outreach venues (!!), please let me know if you have any suggestions for the Library Service, we are always happy to get your feedback.
Take care and I'll 'blog' again soon
Charlotte x
